Fabulous & rare antique French Napoleon III era 9 3/4" sewing and jewelry casket, an exquisite antique box with colorful enamel & brass Boulle inlays, gilt ormolu feet & trim and opulent Palais Royal style appointed interior! It sure has been a while since we found a wonderful old Boulle box! This one a rare beauty with the ornate scrolling brass inlays, turquoise, red & cream colored enamel instead of the usual tortoise shell here and one of the more visually impressive styles! Serpentine shaped front, large, heavy gilt ormolu feet and edge band framing the lid. The inside equally impressive with all of the original fittings including spaces for jewelry and a pocket watch, a raised etui for sewing and/or vanity implements and compartments below for....other jewelry or sewing notions perhaps. A stunning piece, don't miss it! Very good condition. No missing boulle inlays though there is some crazing to the enamel (normal) and it looks like there would originally have been a thin brass string around the edges of the lid. Some age/drying cracks in the lid's ebony veneer. The interior is complete and in fine shape with just a few implements missing from the fitted etui. Working lock & key.
