Attention collectors of important antique string instruments! This is a very hard to find original violin crafted by the master violin maker Johann Georg Thir in 1758 – as signed and dated inside the instrument. The violin comes complete with a master violin bow and inside a case. This violin belongs to a professional musician and music teacher. Some years ago she bought this instrument for her daughter who was a gifted violinist and played numerous contests and concerts with this Thi(e)r violin. Unfortunately the young woman lost her interest in playing and therefore the mother is selling the instrument through us on eBay. This is certainly a rare occasion to acquire an authentic Johann Georg Thir violin. SPECIFICATIONS:_______________COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Austria.DATE: Dated 1758.MARKS: Inside is a paper label with hand written signature and dating (translated): "Johann Georg Thir, string and violinmaker in Vienna (1)758". The bow is marked "G. Werner". The case is marked inside "J. Winter - Made in Germany".CONDITION: Very good condition with original varnish. Minor hairlines not affecting the tone. The violin has been handled with extreme care by a professional. At one of the tuning gears a tiny knob inset is missing. This violin dates back to 1758 and was made by Johann Georg Thir, the best Viennese violinmaker of the second half of the 18th century. When you look inside the F holes you can see the original paper label with the maker’s signature and dating - please see detail pictures.The varnish is original and of a very warm color. The two piece back is subtly curved and the scroll at the neck is of a classical Italian style shape. According to the owner the sound of the instrument cannot be surpassed in quality and maturity. The violin comes complete with bridges, chin rest and strings. Further included in this lot is a master violin bow by G. Werner. Made of Pernambuco with a Mother of pearl inset ebony frog and a metal adjuster also with Mother of Pearl eye. The bow comes in excellent condition with full horse hair. Also included is the velvet lined hard case.Johann Georg Thir (1710 Prem - 1779 Vienna) is considered the best Viennese violinmaker of the second half of the 18th century. Like many of his colleagues, he was originally from Fuessen in Allgau (Southern Germany), one of the most important violinmaking centres in the world. In 1738 he was first recorded in Vienna. He was the teacher of Franz Geissenhof who became his successor in the workshop.
