Description
Laverne International -- I believe 1949 to 1952.  Very rare long and low coffee table with a rare top of caning instead of the wooden dowels that this table usually has.  This is original and custom by the owner as Laverne, as well as most all known manufacturers like Knoll or Herman Miller always did custom finishes, etc.  This came out of a Hollywood Hills modern estate.  Original owners passed on and the kids got it and I purchased this at an estate sale.  The table is in emaculate original condition.  It was hardly ever used and put in a room away from the sun.  I never thought that I would sell this, but it's too long and low for my furniture and I didn't want to use it for anything but a coffee table.  It's not a bench to put a t.v. or stereo on -- it's a coffee table, but of course, you can use it as a bench if you like.  I've seen it a couple of times with round wooden ball tips but all the pictures in books show it without it, as this one is -- that might have been an option. THERE IS A LAVERNE COFFEE TABLE ON THE SITE 1STDIBS.COM AT A STORE CALLED DUEL IN NEW YORK IN JUST OKAY CONDITION FOR $4,500.  NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THE PERFECT CONDITION OF THIS ONE -- THE ONE LISTED HERE IS ALSO A CUSTOM CANED VERSION, NOT THE MANUFACTURED WOODEN DOWEL VERSION. The wood is blond birch.  There is one small dent on the top.  I was told by a refinisher that this can easily be "steamed" out and touched up.  But, you really don't even notice it.  The paint on the legs are original and untouched.  There is some surface rust on the metal underside legs, but that's it.  You will not be disappointed in this one.  The dimensions are: 59 inches long 18 inches wide 14.5 inches high The caning is in excellent condition because it had a glass insert to protect it for decades.  That insert did not come with the table.  If you like, you can have a glass man cut a piece for you for cheap, but not necessary.  I have had a lot of requests to sell this table so I am listing it to see how it goes. This auction is for buy it now or make an offer.  I consider all serious offers.  Shipping will be through Greyhound for a flat fee of $75.  Greyhound is the best way as their people handle everything by hand.  UPS or USPS or FedEx throws its parcels on conveyer belts and bins.  That's why it has a high rate of breakage.  Greyhound is also fast -- around 4-5 days maximum. Answer any questions as there are no refunds in any of my auctions.  Check out my feedback -- 100%. Thanks.
