Description
This is a fine and rare early 19th century Anglo Indian Ivory and Sadeli Micro Mosaic ornately inlaid sewing box. The profusely decorated box has an open ornate fitted tray with multiple panels and lids of exotic material, the lids have small brass pull rings. The tray has dovetailed corners and exquisite corner mitering at all other joints. The box is entirely composed of ivory with sandalwood as a secondary material. The original key is still in the lock. There is damage to one of the small medallions on each end and one on the back. The fitted interior still has spools and other sewing implements inside. It has small ivory bobbins in their own holders. Some small corner ivory pieces are missing as well but this is one of the most complete early sewing boxes of this kind that you will find. It measures approx. 13" long, 9" deep and around 4" high.  Overall it is in excellent condition for it's age. The photos do not do it justice.
