Description
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Placed for auction is a very nice vertical steam engine for a launch or boat. It has a 3 ½ inch bore and a 4 ½ inch stroke.  The engine has been rebuilt with new piston, piston rod, rings and babbitt bearings. The crank shaft has been rebuilt with 4130 steel journals. The main bearings are line bored. This is a slide valve engine. All the lubricators and oilers are Lunkenheimer. The number “O” Lunkenheimers  are on the cross head pin and connecting rod. The number 3 Lunkenheimers are on the slipper guides. I do not know the maker.   Many parts have been nickel plated. All the bearings are adjustable as shown in the following pictures. There is teak lagging around the cylinder.   It is being sold with the original cast fly wheel and base. When mounted on this base with the fly wheel, it would make a very nice stationary live steam display and could run a pump or generator.   Included are an extra set of piston rings and eccentric (including the strap). This will allow it to run a reverse link or water pump.  I used this engine to power my steam launch, Shenandoah, for a period of time while I was designing and building my present power plant. It ran fine and had more than enough power for the 27 ½ foot of boat. This is a very strong running engine.   Dimensions are as follows: 3 ½ inch bore 4 ½ inch stroke Engine height without base – 35 inches Engine width – 13 ½ inches Shaft size – 1 ½ inches in diameter STD 3/8 Key way   Weight: Cast Fly wheel – 72 pounds Cast Base – 40 pounds Engine – 187 pounds Spare parts – 11 pounds Total weight ( not crated) 310 pounds Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 We will contact the winning bidder at the end of the auction with the exact amount due for shipping / postage and insurance.  We mail from Zip 95031.
