Being offered is a fine circa 1860 sterling silver tea and coffee set by Gorham, of Providence, RI, the entire body superbly engine turned, with engraving, applied beading, gothic finials, magnificent cast handles and spouts, all on raised pedestal base............and more............this set shouts Gorham at its best in the early 1860's.  Total weight 138 oz.  Dimensions:  coffee pot  13 1/2 inches high by 9 inches over handle and spout; tea pot 10 inches by 9 1/4 inches over handle and spout; sugar bowl with cover 9 inches high by 7 1/4 inches over handles; creamer 7 inches high by 5 1/2 inches over spout and handle; and waste bowl 5 1/4 inches high by 4 7/8 inches diameter at top rim.  Engraved 'A' monogram in cartouches. Marked as illustrated in photo. In excellent, if not mint condition. All the engine turning is performed by hand--a machine, i.e. stylus is used, but a highly skilled silversmith is necessary to perform the work...to create the effect of silk moire.  (A Curator from a major U.S. museum recently visited Lauren Stanley and said if he could purchase one piece.....this would be his choice!  This is a rare opportunity to have a museum quality set in mint condition and entirely evocative of the early 1860's in the manufacture of American silver.)
