Description
You are bidding on a classic, antique sewing machine, cherished by collectors worldwide. Often used for industrial sewing, this heavy-duty all metal model is a workhorse that is capable of sewing through leather or multiple layers of denim, vinyl, or canvas!  This auction will challenge you to use it or to collect it!   Singer “Red-Eye” Treadle Sewing Machine Model 66 – Serial #G0083843 Circa 1923        Found in Abbigail's attic, a small-town teacher and seamstress, this astonishingly clean “Red-Eye” sewing machine stores snuggly in its rich tiger oak sewing cabinet.  The cabinet has 6 side drawers with a middle, lockable pull-down storage compartment.  Unfortunately, the key has not been found.  In addition, the cabinet features a 20” x 15” hinged work tabletop that folds open when using the machine.        The cabinet rests on a heavy, intricately designed cast iron base and treadle assembly.  The name “SINGER” is centrally and prominently cast, with the Singer seal and trademark cast on either end.  The woodworking craftsmanship is breath-taking, the quality of assembly inspirational - together leaving little doubt that if properly cared for, this piece of furniture will be standing for yet another 85 years!  I wonder what it will be worth then!        This belt-driven Model 66 is in very good operating condition with the head wheel and treadle turning freely.  For optimum performance, it is recommended that you have this machine professionally serviced and lubricated with timing, feed, and tensions adjusted.        Cosmetically, the machine finish remains bright and glossy after 85 years.  The ornate decal design and filigree are rich and vibrant.  The machine has been well maintained and is generally clean.  The top of the cabinet and the hinged tabletop require restoration/refinishing, while the rest of the cabinet and drawers’ show only minor aging.  Knowing that the antique value of this item could be be compromised if I tried to refinish it, I leave the decision to the Buyer to restore or refinish.  See pictures.          Now for the fun part - all the goodies that come with this auction are pictured.        A plate, some tools and several attachments - I know that one is for zippers, another for leather.  Someone told me that one is for a "special" stitch.  I have no idea what the other stuff is.   You also get 14 machine needles of various sizes, 7 bobbins and a dozen nickle plated sewing needles packaged from another time along with various threads, a zipper, something else, and a box of Sonoma pins.  We learn so much writing these ads.          Local FREE pick-up can be arranged in Scranton, PA and is welcomed.  The machine, cabinet and treadle assembly can be separated and shipped in three pieces.  The shipping weight is approximately 105 lbs; calculator set for UPS Ground.     Good Luck! . . . thanks for stopping by . . .
