WONDERFUL Antique 1800s Needle Book !!! Pinwork! Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album This is a stunning example of the early 1800s needle books, often made/given as memento as this fine one was. It is made of paper covers decorated with elaborate pinwork and scallop/cutwork to edges, w/teal and pink threads in the pinwork to highlight the design and text on one side - "A Parting Gift." Such a simple message, but so poignant! The maker used pink silk bow at top to bind the needle book. The covers have pink felt pages sewn onto them, with two more inserted - these also have pinked edges and look like they were never used. The other side of the needle book also has scalloped edges and pinwork design accented with the same colors and patterns. There is no inner text here, instead is a lovely bough of roses and rosebuds amidst green and teal leaves. The work is lovely and precise - a wonderful gift that the recipient obviously treasured and never used. It measures 3" x 4" and has the original pink silk ties - these have frayed with time.
