Description
The William Tell weaving was a limited edition weaving prepared by a master craftsman (name unknown unfortunately).  The Ruti weaving loom manufacturer commissioned these weavings as gifts to significant customers.  My father, Lou Witt, was given one of these weavings in 1971, when he bought a set of looms which came to the Tootal mill in Devonport Tasmania Australia.  The weaving was framed, under glass, by a professional framer in Devonport and has been on display on a wall without any direct sunlight exposure.  So, it is in beautiful condition.  Even the original cardboard tube and the paper, in which the weaving was rolled have been kept.  It is complete with all the postal stamps and labels.  Lou wrote on the back of the frame in pen detailing the origin or provenance.  An image is attached. The image is of the William Tell monument created by sculptor Rich Kissling.  Rich Kissling is referenced on the bottom left hand corner of the weaving.  The image references Maschinenfabric Ruti in the centre as well as the name of Caspar Honegger, who was the loom innovator and founder of the Ruti Machinery Works.  The right hand bottom references Fritz Kaeser followed by what appears to be dess (designer, maybe).  This may be the craftsman. The weaving is very fine and grades in shades grey between white and black.  It is woven using a very fine fibre, possibly silk. It is a fine example of an amazing skill, made in limited numbers and preserved with a complete provenance. International shipping with fine art care and insurance is included in the price.
