It is labeled Phebe. It is similar to the JTL medio fino model. It was built circa 1910.. We purchased it from a violin shop in the UK for my daughter, who loved it but is currently outgrowing this instrument. It was played until very recently. It has a nice sound with good projection, darkish (my daughter calls it one with subtle dark undertones) in overall character but quite bright in the upper register. The sound is warm with a mellow quality to it. The violin is quite resonant and good in higher positions. Perfectly suitable for an intermediate to advanced player.. We have tried a variety of different strings to find out which ones it likes the best and we settled for Obligatos... It is currently has a brand new set, ready to be broken in. The measurements of the violin are as follow: The overall length is 21.5/16, or 54.4cm. The body length is 13 inches, or 33 cm. The varnish has some wear to it consistent with age. There are no damages of any kind to be adressed, and no previous repairs that I can find. We also have a bow that goes very well with this particular violin, but the bow needs repair, hence we decided to sell the violin separately... If you are interested in the mentioned bow I can have it repaired for you in the luthier shop. The cost should be less than 200 dollars. Or I can send it as is at no extra charge. The repair is not major.. It needs a new frog and grip, and of-course when you change the frog it has to be re-haired. Otherwise there are no problems with it. The bow is a french workshop bow made circa 1935 and produces a nice tone on this violin. Despite needing attention it playable right now so you can try it and decide if you like it. Finding a new bow suitable for this violin might take some time and a greater amount than the cost of repair...
